The short version. There are no accounts and no analytics. Nothing you type about a learner is ever sent to us. Decks, learner names and your own cards stay on your device and in your own private iCloud, where we cannot see them. Test scores are not stored at all.

Who this covers
The website at speakeasy-slt.uk and the SLT Cards app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Both are provided by Appleby Technical.
The website
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for.
- No analytics and no tracking cookies. We do not use Google Analytics or any comparable service, and the site sets no cookies of its own.
- Your card selections stay in your browser. Searching, selecting, presenting, testing and building a PDF all happen on your own device. The PDF is produced in your browser and never uploaded.
- Shared deck links do not reach any server. When you
share a deck, the list of cards is placed after the
#in the address. Browsers never send that part of a link to a server, by design — so the contents of a deck you share stay between you and the person you send it to. A link holds only card names: no pictures, and no learner name. - Test scores on the website are not stored. A score lasts as long as the run and is gone when you close it.
Hosting logs
The site is hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard server access logs — including IP addresses — as an ordinary part of serving a website securely. We do not use those logs to build any profile of visitors. Netlify acts as our hosting provider and processes this information on our behalf.
Card images and data
Card pictures and the word list are fetched from this site and from GitHub, which hosts the project's public repository. Requesting a file from either involves your IP address reaching that provider, as with any website.
The app
- No accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking libraries.
- Your content is yours. Learner names, decks, cards you create and test scores are written to your device and, if you are signed in to iCloud, to a private container in your own iCloud Drive. That container belongs to your Apple Account. We have no access to it and no copy of it.
- Pictures you add stay with you. A picture you attach to a card you create is stored in that same private container and is never uploaded to us.
- Card updates are one-way. The app checks this site's repository for new cards. It downloads; it never uploads. Nothing about your decks or learners is included in that check.
- Decks you send contain only card names. A shared deck — as a link or a file — lists which cards it holds. It never includes pictures, a learner's name, or any score.
Test scores
Test scores are not stored anywhere. On the website and in the app alike, a score exists only while the test is open. Closing it discards the score — it is not written to your device, not put in iCloud, and never sent to us. No record of how a learner performed is kept by either the app or this site.
If you are a therapist using this with learners
Anything identifiable that you enter — in practice, a learner's name on a folder of decks — is information you control, not information we hold. For UK GDPR purposes you are the data controller for it, and your own employer's information governance rules apply. Two practical suggestions:
- Use initials or a case number rather than a full name, so that a glance at your screen or a synced device reveals as little as possible.
- Remember that decks follow your Apple Account, so they will appear on any device signed in to it.
Requesting a card, or reporting a problem
Both open a message in your own email app, already filled in, addressed to Appleby Technical. Nothing is submitted through this website — you send the email yourself, from your own account, and can edit or discard it first. We then hold that email, and whatever you chose to put in it, in order to reply and to consider the request. Please do not include learner details in a card request; we only need the word and its sounds.
Children
This is a tool for speech and language professionals rather than a service children sign up to. We do not knowingly collect information from children. Where a child's initials or results are entered by a therapist, that information stays in the therapist's own storage as described above.
Keeping and deleting information
- On your devices: content stays until you delete it. Deleting a deck, a learner, a card or the app removes it. iCloud copies follow, and can also be managed in your device's iCloud settings.
- Emails you send us: kept while needed to answer you and to act on card requests, then deleted.
- Hosting logs: retained by Netlify for a short period under their own policy.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask what information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. In practice the only information we are likely to hold is an email you have sent us. Ask via the Report an issue button on the site and we will deal with it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above changes with it. The history of every change is public in the project's repository.
